Have An Ice Day

The Rivalry
oil on board
2004

detail

I was asked recently about my paintings. I'm reluctant to post much about them here because the focus of this site is life drawing and gestural life drawing in particular. However, I thought I would post this relic from 2004 for a few reasons.
One: I approached the painting almost entirley from a compositional point of view in that, rather than stay true to the accuracy of the figures, the figures are distorted to fit the composition.

Two: I painted in a very quick gestural way with details in the faces added only at the very last stage. In that way, it relates to the other work posted here.

Three: The hockey season is about to begin and I'm am very excited with the Bruins' decision to go old school with their jerseys!

Gorgeous painting!

As disappointed as I am with the Canucks choice to keep the Orca and add a (in my opinion) cluttered and ugly "Vancouver" across the chest, its nice to see a few teams going to the retro!

...and all the 'Nucks had to do was go retro (not just the colours though) and they would have had the nicest jersey in the league...sigh...

Hope your doing well Adam! Keep up the good work!

At last, my old Bruins jersey will again be relevant! Of course, there is a certain Sharks fan in my house who now needs new gear for watching games...

Justin-
I agree except for one small detail: Second best jersey in the league (cough,Boston!).

Emy-
Mine too. As for the Sharks, I like their redesign.
